halion, on the other hand, was a breeze - just load it up, throw a load of samples onto the keyboard page, and you're off. If you have a library with all your sample instruments in, once you edit anything on the second edit window (the grey one) it will try to save over your original instrument (i know you can use "save as." and save it elsewhere, but it does seem a little cumbersome, and requires that you have made a "sampler Instruments" folder in your current project folder). personally, it drives me nuts as it's workflow/ interface is SO slow and annoying - no way of quickly trying stuff out without creating instruments/zones/ saving them/ loading them up etc etc Or do people just use the esx24 as it comes free. can you still build programs "on-the-fly"?ĭoes absolutely NO-ONE use halion in logic? i can't understand why.is it flaky? what are the new filers like? (waldorf designed, i believe)ģ. the envelopes used to click very slightly when notes/hits with a lot of bass were released (no matter how much you tweaked the envelopes' release times).Ģ. the esx, on the other hand, sounds great - the filter/ resonance and the fat/drive function work well and add to the sound, rather than ruining it (halion)Īlso. turn up the resonance and all the bottom end disappears (rubbish). they were the weediest, most plasticky, whistly abomination this side of an akai s3000 (which also sounded rubbish). HOWEVER.and this is a BIG "however" - the filters on it used to be utter nonsence. it makes you save endless instrument files when all you want to do is quickly try something out! i find myself becoming increasingly frustrated with it. the esx seems much more geared towards making a single sound with the same global settings, which becomes part of a library that you intend to use on every project. it is also much more flexible for sound creation, as you can have different synthesis settings on every keygroup/ more complex envelopes. you can just load it up, and throw things straight in (for auditioning), and it's current state will be saved into the song file. it is much quicker to use than the esx24, allowing on the fly drag & drop, without forcing you to keep creating and saving instrument files. my sound library is also in halion format. i have a copy of halion 1 which i used to use with cubase vst in os9, so would only have to pay for upgrade. Just wondering what peoples' experiences with halion under logic are like.
